We have always been passionate about the sustainability and ethical nature of our products, and by sourcing only the highest quality materials which meet our values means we are often supporting suppliers from all corners of the world. Many of these suppliers are located in countries where national laws for protecting workers are inadequate and poorly enforced and environmental practices are more of a guideline than a requirement. And this is something that really bothers us. So, we have joined forces with Amfori who are the leading global business association for open and sustainable trade, helping to bring a global understanding to the importance of workers’ rights and sustainable supply chains.
In the past there have been many companies and associations that have tried to create specific codes of conduct and implementation systems for all the different countries and industries of international trade. And with this prolific array of auditing processes, diverging implementation approaches and individual codes came confusion, mismanagement and ultimately an unattainable end goal of sustainable and ethical practices worldwide. It was Amfori’s Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI) that was developed to create a uniformed management system that supports companies to drive social compliance and improve manufacturing processes within the supply chain.
So, together with Amfori we have been able to implement their Business Social Compliance Initiative with our suppliers. This initiative offers one common code of conduct and one single implementation system which encompasses international labour standards protecting workers rights in line with the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. As well as developing guidelines aligned with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
Under the BSCI program we have been able to implement a broad range of tools and activities to audit, train, share information and influence our supplies, empowering them to make the best possible choices for both their employees and their surrounding natural environment. And this makes us even more proud of the products we are creating!
